Hipster Alert

Hopefully you like beach-themed garage rock, because Wavves released a single today on Mountain Dew's label (which surprisingly does exist). Nathan Williams actually has a decent voice, which wasn't evident on the previously released crap that he recorded on garageband. Listen up, it won't kill you.

Anyway, the Dew Tour is also going on and 14 year-old Chaz Ortiz is tearing it up out there. Yeah.

New Cee-Lo Song

Cee Lo Green is the singer man for Gnarls Barkley for those of you who don't know. Listen to this if you like old school soul music or the state of Georgia.

Thanks

New Black Keys Video

I lolled.

Also, we're working on a record. I don't know how much of it we'll get done because we're recording it with our buddy Ford who is busy gearing up for his first semester of college in the fall. Anyway, the band is The Mittens and the members are me, Juleon and Ford. No myspace or so much as an album cover yet, but we're all pretty determined to actually release something. I'll keep yall posted.

The Buick Sixes Reunion Show

Just found out we were playing it. Tonight at Smith's Olde Bar in midtown. David Bowie and John Mayer have played there. Scott couldn't make it and Ben quit/isn't with us anymore, so it's me and Robert. Take the power back!

This shirt was the first Buick Sixes shirt. I drew it with sharpies on an old P.E. shirt turned inside out about halfway through 8th grade. Yeah!

The Aziz Ansari Challenge

I heard Aziz Ansari's stand-up yesterday. Actually I watched it on Comedy Central. Here's a clip:

One other thing that he said about 4 minutes after this was that he googles his name all the time, and that he reads a ton of what random people say about him on the internet. He's insanely hilarious, but is he legit? Aziz, if you're out there, email me.

That being said, Ryan Adams posted an awesome song on his website, and my acoustic album comes out next week. Get excited.

Yo Son

Hazards Show Tomorrow (Friday March 12.) with Taj, Stereohype, and Angry Banana

It will pretty much be a Land of the Freak chillfest... and by that I mean that Will and I will be there straight chillin' (and possibly eating Moe's). So hit that up if you can. starts at 6:30 and is $10 I think.

And also, if you like Pop Punk, and if you like covers, then the Ughs! can play your birthday... apparently. So yeah, some guy is asking the Ughs! (the Ergs! cover band) to play his birthday party... I don't know the guy or where it is, but if you show up I'm sure it'll be good times (he is in a Jawbreaker cover band, so its sure to be good times).

So yeah, flier?

Also, there is a ska/punk show March 12 @ Swayzes with: Taj Motel Trio, The Hazards, Dead Like Lincoln, blahblahblah. Just go. I'll love you forever.

BALKANS ON INDIEATL

Also, you can now download LOTF's first mixtape at our store. It's more of a give-away booth actually, or the windowsill of Rag-O-Rama, where there are a bunch of free stickers and cd's.

The second mixtape is also up, but only 4/10 songs are available at the moment. Don't worry, they'll go up soon. We just have to convert them to WAV so we can upload them, but you get to download them in mp3. When we hook up the paypal account, you'll be able to buy t-shirts and stuff for super cheap, and "name your price" on some records (you won't be required to pay anything, but it's nice for us to get a check for the work we do), unless it's a physical copy, which we would have to charge shipping and printing.

What Up Nerds?

Hey

We have a store now, which means everything is free but you can donate if you want. I don't know if our paypal account is hooked up to it yet, but soon you're going to be able to download my EP of demos recorded on a tapedeck so I could post something on the internet. It is appropriately titled First Tapes for the Internet and it's being recorded over the next three weeks, then immediately released. Stay golden.

Free Community Records Sampler

First of all, I want everyone to know that all of the free downloads that we link you to on this blog are totally legitimate and that the artists or magazines have set up those downloads to be free. Everything we are linking you to is perfectly legal for you to download.

That being said, here is the Community Records street team sampler that they mailed me and wanted me to give to yall. Seriously, that's what it said to do on it. Community Records is a bunch of awesome people in New Orleans that run a donation-based label. Check them out here.

Now download that sucka

NEW BALKANS MIXTAPE! FREE!

It shreds, and it's free, so no complaining. Here it is.

To The Moon or Bust Review
This is the first of a series of free monthly mixtapes that our friends the Balkans plan to release. It has some live tracks that have been somewhat remixed, like "VG 529" (or "Violent Girls," live at 529 FSA). It also has some never-before heard shredders like "Lady Killer." In addition to these tracks that are characteristic of the Balkans, there are a ton of link track-type songs that are 17 seconds long and contain no real music. "Chess" is a cool song, but it is keyboards and drum machines instead of noisy garage rock guitar and cymbals. Overall I would say this record somewhat resembles Wavves' first full length, except I am not embarrassed to listen to it.

"Kurt and Courtney" Documentary

Hulu has a documentary on the death of Kurt Cobain up. The BBC did it. I think it's streaming until the end of the month. HERE it is (I didn't embed it because sometimes it autoplays, and I just hate that).

Also, the Felts had a change of myspace url. The new site is here.

Word. I was watching that documentary, which is awesome, and it reminded me that Jay Reatard did a cover of Nirvana's "Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle," which is my favorite Nirvana song. For those of you who don't know, Mr. Reatard was found dead in his Memphis home last Wednesday. I won't lie: I don't like his music, and I think his voice is annoying. However, he was 27 or 29 or something, and no one deserves to die that young. As a brief memorial (I know all other blogs are doing it), HERE is that cover.

Naturally it is worse than Nirvana's, but he gave it a great interpretation. Rest in peace Mr. Reatard.

If I can, dear internet, I would like to bear my soul to you and tell you a small secret: I'm essentially obsessed with Nirvana. Them and Weezer. I'm sorry.

Also, tell me these aren't legit.

New The Felts Song(s)

Hey there ol' buddies, it's your ol' buddy, Will. I just uploaded a new track with two songs on it ("Alexander Lake" and "Porcupinecone") to the myspaces of The Felts and The Buick Sixes. Be on the look out for more of that, especially on the Felts' 'space, because I just figured out a way to convert my tapes to mp3. These are demos, but they were pretty good takes. Enjoy.

If you know your way around Richmond like I do, this video is pretty funny.

This Friday is Party Time

Juleon and I are playing in an Ergs! cover band, called the Ughs! Witty, right? Also I drew a flier for the show during my free period today. You probably already looked at it if you are reading this now (it is above this small paragraph). -Will

Word to Mother: I'm Dangerous

This is some sort of footage for a jam I wrote, entitled "I'm Just A Small Giant." Our good friend MCaeser edited it (he does most of our editing) and I think it's awesome. This song is going to be on Sideways Hat, which I am recording right now.

That was fun, wasn't it?

Anyway, recording is in the works. I'm recording some stuff at Ford McClure's house and some in my room, which I will produce, mix and edit at other peoples' houses who own a mac, because I don't have one. Stay sweet.
