"Sideways Hat" Recording Day 1

If this guy knew you he probably wouldn't be wearing four popped collars

Hey there freaks, it's Will. I don't know how productive your afternoon was, but I spent mine recording my first full-length, called If It Weren't For You I'd Be Wearing A Sideways Hat Right Now. Pretty exciting, even though it has a dumb name. We barely got anything done, but it was still awesome.
HERE is where you can download/listen to the first minute and a half of one song that I recorded today. It's not a good representation of the record, as it is noisy instead of quiet and folkyish. It's called "The Woods Have Been Cut Down, Pt. I." I put it up because it is the most done of anything we worked on today, I played drums on this one (and everything else) and have absolutely no drum talent. In the final product I'm going to add bass and have my friend Robert do the drums on this one, and maybe throw in weirder sound effects. Anyway, check it out it you're interested.

New, Exciting, Whatever

Hey there this is Will.

Exams are over and now it's time for me to record at my buddy Ford (otherwise known as Secretly Stranger from the February 09 Sampler)'s house. I'm going in there to get The Felts' first record done for real this time. It will probably take forever, because my friends Jarrett and Robert (who'll be providing violin and drums) aren't too familiar with the songs at this point. Just a heads up on that coming out.

If It Weren't For You I'd Be Wearing A Sideways Hat Right NowImmediately after I finish that one, I'm going to try and get The Felts second record recorded. That should take a lot shorter of a time because it's simpler and shorter in length.

There Is No Balance

Then after that I'll probably have finished full length #3, entitled Brother. In fact, I'll probably finish that one in the next few days. It doesn't have art yet.

Also, we at LOTF are proud to welcome a new band: The Mittens. It's me and Juleon and Ford, who I mentioned a few paragraphs ago. We have a few songs, but nothing has been recorded.

Also, be on the lookout for The Ergs! cover band that Juleon and I will be in that will be playing at WonderRoot on January 10th or something, at Pop Punk Cover Band Night.

The Ergs! "Kind of Like Smitten"

New things. New things.

Listen to Super Mash Bros. Super good stuff going on there especially if you like Girl Talk or Pop/Hip Hop in general.

Also, the homies at Community Records have released 3 songs out of the 4 songs on the new Stuck Lucky 7". And they are well... too good. So, if you have a brain you should download that... or I just cant talk to you ever again...

This song isn't on it, but it is one of my favorite Stuck Lucky songs... (it is now behind all of the songs on the new 7", so, thats how good those new songs are)

GET IT!

Flier

I drew this at church and colored it at home. This wasn't during a sermon or anything, I was just at church while I drew it. Check the show out if you're 19+ or 21+ or whatever you have to be to get in there. If you aren't, head over to their 'space and listen to the new track-eroo, "Leopard Print." It's awesome.

Technology = Satan

Yeah. We filmed a music video for you. The song is, "Not a person, just a small giant" or something along those lines (don't get mad at me will), but because of technology fail it isn't working as well (or as fast) as we would like, so just keep watching this.

And be happy. But original Land of the Freak/Kid Dactyl material is coming soon...

Everybody have fun tonight!

We made a video. It is here.

It sucks, but I edited it in like 30 minutes.... There will be a lot more videos to come because cross country is almost over. In fact, there are bits and pieces of the Bone Strutures pt. 2 video in there so that is coming up too. Along with other things.

Also, Fifa 10 came out last week, and it looks like a good time. You should probably be playing it now... you know... unless you are doing important things like listening to music or feeding your cat.

Sup Gangsters

So I was just roamin' the blogosphere when I happened upon Telekenisis

Pretty snazzy indie-pop whatever. Will told me about them a while ago, but I didn't look them (actually him) up because I'm a lazy failure.

I have homework to do so... thats it... but you should drop by Community Records because they are great guys (met them at a show), they run an awesome DIY label that caters to the ska/punk/awesome fans out there, and the dudes run a pretty sick coffee shop in New Orleans. So, drop by if you want to remain my friend... oh yeah, and I got name dropped (kinda) in one of their posts.

I looked similar to this guy after my homie Will told me:

(well, there were some minor differences, but I think you get it.)

Saturday, October 17, 2009

Fine. If you make me.

I'll start posting again... because I've finally gotten bored enough after a hellish couple of weeks in school. Whatever, you don't read this anyway.

This is what has been going on in the last month: Sampler getting done, Zine getting almost completely done, Writing songs with my homeslice kid dactyl, listening to Math The Band and just having my music tastes get more poppy in general... (sidenote: Am I the only one that is starting to like pop done by people who hate pop? I'm not sure, but its just so catchy I can't hate it...), Running a lot, and not doing this blog.

Oh, and our homie Glenn Brigman and his band HuzZah hooked up this sick nasty cover.

Another Video? Okay.

Don't like Math the Band? Okay, get out! No, not really, come back... I didn't mean it. Here have some Two Hand Fools.

There you go groovestars. Expect more updates... unless of course I stop caring about you... which will only happen in a few weeks!

When I Make It...

So, today I was just browsing the interwebz, looking at my favorite sites and I came across this video (again) on if you make it (which coincidentally is the best site ever because its got the best free music in the history of forever). It was just too awesome before their new album, Can't Maintain, came out and this was the first I had heard of the song... but whatever right? So here is some quality Andrew Jackson Jihad, and I highly encourage you folks to browse the other videos at the magical site known as if you make it, because its just people helping people and those are simply the best kind of people.

Andrew Jackson Jihad - Sense, Sensibiity from If You Make It on Vimeo.

Ahoy there!

Hey

Hazards show on 10/3 with Fatter than Albert and Stuck Lucky if you didn't know. It is definitely going to be super awesome crazy cool. So be there.

Didn't have much time this past week to update, sorry... hopefully I will get better although school is eating my life right now... oh well. Enjoy yourselfs some Times New Viking (especially if you like Wavves or Lovvers, or anything with too many v's in their name says the folks at "I found this song in the road" and I wholeheartedly agree).

We are still working on the next Land of the Freak, but sickness and out of town-ness has held us up a couple of days, but it should be out by mid-late september. We are starting to get articles in (if you have articles to send in, it would be just too fantastic if you did it around now and such)and we are starting to set things up... so, be prepared to be freaked out or something cliche having to do with our name.

Also, I just thought about how fantastic Freakazoid was when it was on. Click here to watch the first part of the best show about a blue guy with crazy hair and a red jumpsuit.

Zomg. Issue Update

So. As of right now we have 13-15 pages without submissions... which means this will likely be a 20 paged issue. Yay. Along with a 10 song (at least) sampler featuring songs (some are unreleased!!) from such amazing people as: The Balkans, The Shockwaves, Sex on The Weather Channel, Addie Namnoum and more!

Also, if you know me, you know how much I hate ska... so here is a video about how much I hate ska.

P.S. It would be great if you guys could comment or something... then maybe I would start spending more time on my posts again...

Yo Dogs

So, Phortfest was pretty cool... for the people that were there. Superman costumes were worn, bands I hadn't heard before were awesome (the shockwaves, sex on the weather channel) and Moe's was eaten.

In other news:

The Whigs are awesome

Fox Trotsky may be my new favorite band... er... favorite new band

Also... the sampler is shaping up nicely. Some pretty good bands are jumping on it for your listening enjoyment. And that's all I have to say for today... well that and the whole "write stuff do stuff blah blah blah" thing that you've heard a bunch and already know about.

--Stay Awesome Homeskillets and don't forget to check out Kid Dactyl's solo blog about things going down in the global/indie/punk/"I beat Pitchfork to articles" scene.

Streetlight Manifesto, Lions, and Trailers Galore!!

Yo Homies. It's the weekend, and that means ShowsShowsShowsShows. Yay. First up is our awesome friends Backfoot Trailer who are playing/played tonight with Freshmen 15.

Next is Phortfest '09 with Treephort (Warped Tour winners) The Hazards (Local ska-core heroes), Wavepool (Awesome straight up Punk), and The Erratics (Your friendly neighborhood hardcore punk band). This show is sure to please whether you just like alternative rock... or you are the hardest of core. Also, an inside source says there may be a dinosaur appearance...

Okay, so I was just surfing the intarwebz yesterday... and I decided to check up on the greatest thing to happen to music since Mozart, Streetlight Manifesto... and it turns out they made their second ever official music video. And it is quite awesome. Here you go, and enjoy your weekend.

P.S. I think the penguin is Mike Brown
P.P.S. Things are looking like I will in fact make a playlist for you homies. It will be awesome.

Schoooooooooools out for su--... wait, thats not even close to true...

Well, we are back in school now... and that really sucks a lot, but I have been toying with the idea of making a mix cd and uploading it to mediafire for you guys. It would be themed and awesome of course, so that might happen.

Today I found out about two pretty awesome bands that you should definitely check out if you like pop-punk/punk because they are pretty sweet. They are Sicko and Arkansas? and both are underground bands from around the way a little. Sicko broke up, but Arkansas? just finished up on a tour up in the northeast which I would assume was pretty sweet, and involved a lot of pogo-ing. Anyways, both bands are just fun and have songs about stupid things like Cap'n Crunch, old Japanese comics, and being a "Dateless Loser". So if you like any of those things/ having fun in general check those bizzands izzout.

Video for the day :D.

I don't care if you can barely hear it. Trust me, its awesome.

Why Hello There!

We are on a roll with these three posts in a row... but enough about me. How are you? Good? I'm glad your summer was fun. You want to see a video of HuzZah you say? Well I just happen to have one right here!

These guys are pretty swell, but sadly they have to go off to the magical land of higher education and they wont be doing anything as a band for a while. But no worries! They say that they are still together and will definitely be doing more stuff in the future.... Also their album can be found right here. They make some pretty awesome music, and they are just some pretty awesome guys, so you should definitely support them... I mean, unless you don't want to be friends anymore...

Slow Day

No real news today. Although I did find this pretty sweet montage from the cool people at Atlanta Hates Us. Enjoy.

June/July clips from atlantahatesus on Vimeo.

P.S. Summers over. That kind of sucks. Good luck with school. Hopefully we can make it a little less suckish with videos/art/music for you.

Backfoot Trailer Show -- 8/21

Good friends Backfoot Trailer are playing a show on Friday (8/21, the day before Phortfest [see post below]) at Swayze's Venue. You should go to that if you like sick pop-punk, or punk, or awesome people, or an awesome time. All of those things will be there. Those guys are pretty sweet and you can get a song of theirs (804) from our sampler.

On the "To make reading this post worthwile I should add a semi-relevant video clip" note, a while ago Backfoot Trailer played with Nerdcore(The new kind where people rap about tetris) hero MC Lars and that was a ridiculously awesome show. So the youtube clip today will be MC Lars, but don't forget about the BFT Show on Friday. It's with Freshmen 15 if you happen to enjoy them as well.

Land of the Freak... is still Free!!!

Land of the Freak #2 coming to a link near you... soon. AND STILL FREE!!!!

In LOTF related news. We want you to write things. Articles on whatever music, art, fun related things you can think about. Please. That would mean so much if you did that and we would love you forever :). We are compiling a killer sampler for you guys too (quite literally, when you listen to it there is a possibility you will lose a limb if not your life because of how awesome the bands are) no spoilers, but it will be truly awesome, but we need you and your band/associates, friends, colleagues, friends of the night to send us songs. But back to the articles thing. Those would be awesome and they can be about whatever you want.

In other news, ideas are still being tossed around for the next couple of videos and other sorts of things along with an album from the one and only Will Ingram coming up soon (all of the songs are written and demoed, just need to record them to computer for your enjoyment). I will start adding some cool blogs to the blog roll for you to peruse after you are finished with this amazingly magnificent blog.

Show I just found out about: Treephort (Ska-punk/Original Nerdcore), The Hazards ("A young Stuck Lucky"), and more August 22nd @ Swayze's Venue for Phortfest. Be there or be much cooler than we are.

Um, I need to embed something to make this not seem ridiculously uneventful.... Alex Pratt's cover of Reconstruction Site originally by The Weakerthans. Good luck at college, friend.

--Later Friendsicles

P.S. The person who correctly identifies where I got the idea for the title of this post from in the comments section gets a prize (It really is a good prize, and it really is worth it I promise).

Back To School

And that means regular posts. Yay.

Mass Ska Raid was epic wintasticalness. Although admittedly it wasn't as good as last years, it was still worth the $10 presale. Everyone that didn't go should probably be punching themselves right now... but whatever.

Also there is an Andrew Jackson Jihad show on the 12th, which we may or may not be going to but you should definitely hit that up if you read the blog and/or like Andrew Jackson Jihad who are awesome folk punk win. They also use electric instruments on their newest album Can't Maintain, and its also pretty sweet.

Also, there is a possibility of a Fatter Than Albert, Stuck Lucky, Hazards show on October 3rd so clear your schedule because that will be pretty cool as well.

Going back to school however will not be too much fun... There will be homework and cross country and learning, but there will also be shows at school too so hopefully we can organize some of those starting soon.

As always, if you have any videos, music, pictures, anything to send us go right ahead and we will promote it until there is nothing left to promote

Two Days in a Row?!

Well, this will just be a short blog with some fun music that I found today.

This is the best ska/punk/folk/punk/bomb the music industry/ Andrew Jackson Jihad/guy wearing a flaming tsunamis shirt song I have ever heard.

Andrew Jackson Jihad - A Song In Memory Of Stormy The Rabbit from If You Make It on Vimeo.

Also, you kids should check out Hot New Mexicans if you are into the whole garage punk rock influenced thing. They have a really interesting sound that you will probably like if you are into the Whigs or just punk in general. They also have a good quote on there about how punk will never die, so read that while you are over there.

Hmm, what else is there... Treephort has a new CD coming out soon. It is pretty much punk but not what you have come to expect from them. More of a poppy sound going on and no horns, but the same hold sense of humor that makes Treephort stand out. It is definitely worth a listen... and why not at their CD release show next Friday (May 22nd) that just happens to be with the Hazards...

Oh yeah. The Star Trek movie was super epic friends. I saw it with my mother for mother's day, and it was a fantastic cinematic experience which I would recommend to anyone who has any desire to continue living a worthy life. It definitely doesn't bring up the philosophical questions that the series did, but it still makes a pretty solid point and comes with some good action as well... The movie is more Spock- centered than the show definitely was... so Spock fans will be super-excited by the movie. Also, it doesn't just take the show and re-create it in movie form. It takes a new perspective on the idea so its definitely still worth seeing if you think you already know what is going on.

Lastly for tonight, is If You Make It. It is a pretty snazzy website run by Dave from The Halo Fauna. He has Pink Couch Sessions, which are some awesome bands that Dave gets to play on his pink couch... you probably could have guessed that but whatever... Somehow he has gotten a ridiculous amount of my favorite bands like; Andrew Jackson Jihad, Defiance, Ohio, and Bomb The Music Industry, and it has introduced me to some awesome bands like Coffee Project (some Acoustic-ska from the drummer of Less Than Jake). The site has a bunch of other videos from shows and stuff, and a bunch of free albums. Pretty much its just good friends, playing good music, and trying to give that to you and stuff, its generally pretty awesome.

That blog turned out to be not so short... sorry about that friends...
: D

ACOUSTIC SHOW

By the way, hey, this is Will. I made this flier for the acoustic show going down at Westminster tomorrow. Westminster has nothing to do with it; it's pretty thoroughly LOTF. Also, I would click the image to see a larger size if I were you.

It Took Me Three Years To Make This Post

Okay kids, Land of the Freak is back... on the interwebz. (If you'd like a zine you can read in your hands, I suggest picking up Suburban Punx #3 or printing out our first one which will be up soon).

Well if you dont know about Land of the Freak, we are a Music Collective/Zine/Art Stuffs based in the Metro-Atlanta area.

Here is where will be posting just some random fun stuff that we see, art we make, individual songs, ideas for stuff, anything you want us to put up here.

Land of the Freak in zine form will still be around... it will just be on a .pdf (or something like it) and you will have to print it out yourself (sorry kids, but we are kind of poor)... but it will still be in zine form and everything. We will be saving all of the bestest stuff for the zine so if you dont see your stuff appear on the blog that is a rather good thing!

Fun Stuffs - These guys are having too much for this to be healthy:

Submit things. Acoustic Show on the campus of Westminster next week: All your favorite people will be playing. Hazards show 4/25 with River City Rebels. Happy times. Submit things, art, music, paintings, engravings, collages, stories, articles, things you think are fun, whatever.

Also, if you want to be made a contributor to the blog just let me know on facebook, or comment on here letting me know. Or if you want your art featured as the header for the blog let me know that too and I will hook you up, or if you want to make the cover art for the next compilation (the first compilation can be downloaded for free aqui )

Look to your right for our personal blogs (I wont update my personal one much, but Kid Dactyl's is always full of crazy new stuffs to check out).

So yeah, Up the punks and other such nonsense.
